In this one-hour course, we discuss the need for helping professionals to pay close attention to their own bodies, emotions, and souls as they seek to care for trauma survivors. We talk about the elements of compassion fatigue and secondary traumatic stress, and share practical ways to prevent burnout and stay connected to our communities and relationships with God when the ministry of care and counseling takes its toll.
Participants will learn:
- Definitions and symptoms of compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, and burnout
- Signs that indicate potential compassion fatigue
- Self-assessments for tracking personal and professional signs of burnout
- Practical tools for managing secondary traumatic stress and preventing burnout
Presenters
Beth Broom, LPC-S, CCTP-II
Beth Broom is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Level 2 (CCTP-II). She owns a private counseling practice specializing in trauma healing. She also serves as a Deacon of Care at The Village Church Denton in Denton, Texas. Beth is the founder and director of Christian Trauma Healing Network, and she co-hosts a podcast called “Counsel for Life,” engaging conversations about mental health and the Christian life.
Stefanie Miles, LPC-A
Professional counseling is a second career for Stefanie, though she is not new to the field of counseling. She has been studying biblical counseling and the process of change while walking alongside and mentoring women for nearly two decades. Her training and experience encompass a spectrum of issues which include: trauma, complex trauma and abuse, vicarious trauma and secondary traumatic stress, compassion fatigue, pastoral and member care, grief and loss, relational problems and marriage relationships, anxiety, depression, codependency and emotional struggles, issues of faith and spiritual repair work, leadership/management challenges and burnout.
Christian Trauma Healing Network has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7313. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Christian Trauma Healing Network is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
